Katie Price tells of terror after shocking car crash which nearly killed her

  • Horse-loving model left distressed after her 4X4 mowed down two stallions

  • Mother-of-three suffered severe whiplash in 'terrifying' crash

Katie Price has spoken of her terror after a car crash which nearly cost her her life.

The glamour model was left with severe whiplash after two stallions ran into the road and smashed into her 4X4, which boyfriend Leandro Penna was driving.

And sobbing after the terrifying accident which left the horses dead, Katie admitted she was stunned she survived.

She told the Daily Mirror: 'It's a miracle that we're alive. It was absolutely terrifying. it all happened in a flash and I have absolutely no idea how I wasn't badly injured.

It is understood the mother-of-three suffered cuts on her hands and a jarred neck after the incident, which happened at 1.30am yesterday morning around three miles from their hotel Estancia San Pedro Viejo in Argentina.

And witnesses said the only reason she and the Argentinian model survived the crash was because they were in such a sturdy vehicle and were wearing their seatbelts.

But while Katie - also known as Jordan - was shaken by the crash, she was said to be most upset about the death of the horses - being a keen rider herself.

A source told The Sun: 'Jordan probably loves horses more than people, they're her life. To have watched the animals die like that would have been extremely distressing for her.'

A spokesperson for the model said: 'There was an accident and sadly two horses were killed. Katie and Leandro are OK, though understandably shaken.'

Tow-truck driver Raul Reinoso told The Sun he pulled up shortly after the crash and spoke to Katie and Leandro.

He told the newspaper: 'They said the horses were galloping in front of them and suddenly just went up in the air. It must have happened very quickly.

'They said Leandro had time to slam on the brakes. They waited and the car got towed by another car to the farm. I saw them today and they seemed fine.'

Katie and Leandro flew into the Argentine capital Buenos Aires last Friday, before heading 400 miles north to Despeñaderos, located on the outskirts of the city of Cordoba.

Katie originally spent just four days in South America earlier this month before jetting back to the UK earlier than expected to sort out issues in her impending divorce from Alex Reid.

Leandro said at the time: 'We have to rush back to London again. It's something that came up at the last minute. It's nothing to do with Katie's divorce, it's work-related.

'We're flying back to London together on Friday and returning to Argentina again once we're done and then I'll take Katie to see my parents.

'The idea now is that Katie gets to know Buenos Aires a little. She loves what she's seen so far. She really likes everything.'

But after just eight days on British soil - during which she pulled out of plans to run the London Marathon - she jetted back to Buenos Aires with Leandro again.

Earlier in the week, Katie uploaded a series of romantic snaps she took with Leandro in Cordoba, Argentina, to Twitter, accompanied by Spanish musings on the region and her love for the 25-year-old.

US X Factor: How Cheryl Cole is being introduced to America

US X Factor: How Cheryl Cole is being introduced to America

She’s hardly known over in the states and Jennifer Lopez only just seemed to be aware of what she does so it’s fair to say that Cheryl Cole has certainly got her work cut out in cracking America.

But now an influential U.S. blogger has described England’s sweetheart as ‘a Brit singer convicted of assault’ and referred to her as ‘this Cole woman’ - not the best introduction she could have hope for.

In an interview with music mogul and X Factor supremo Simon Cowell, Nikki Finke, editor of Deadline Hollywood has revealed that Cheryl is a ‘shoo-in’ for the U.S. version of the show alongside Paula Abdul – but she isn’t holding back on the fact she isn’t convinced by the Geordie singer.

And Finke's opinion matters - not only has she set up Deadline.com before selling it in 2009 for a reported $14million while still remaining as editor-in-chief, but she also writes for L.A. Weekly and is renowned for her strong views.

Finke writes that none of the contestants auditioning for the American version of the show will ‘have a clue about Cole’.

The blogger also details Cheryl’s ‘rough’ history including her conviction for assault and subsequent community service.

However the interview does clearly show Simon’s strong support for the pop princess he gushes about Cheryl to Nikki.

Speaking about when he initially hired Cheryl for the British version of the show Cowell told Finke: ‘I’d only met her literally once when I offered her the job on X Factor.

NOW CHERYL'S ON A BABY FOOD DIET

Cheryl Cole has revealed she is on a baby food diet

If you are what you eat, then Cheryl Cole might just be getting younger every day.

The 27-year-old is said to be on a diet based on baby food as she goes to extraordinary lengths to ensure she is in perfect shape in time for filming the U.S. version of the X Factor later this year.

The ‘cleanse’ diet, devised by celebrity personal trainer Tracy Anderson,  involves eating 14 servings of pureed infant food a day before a healthy adult dinner.

A source said: ‘You eat baby food, such as apricot and sweet potato or asparagus, carrot and orange.
‘In the evening you have a light meal, such as grilled chicken or fish.’

Jennifer Aniston, Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow and Beyonce are all reportedly devotees of pureed fruit and veg.

Miss Cole has not been officially named as one of the judges on the U.S. show, but fellow judge and programme supremo Simon Cowell all but confirmed her involvement in an interview with Hollywood blogger Nikki Finke, who said an announcement will be made next week.

'I thought she was bright, cute, knew what she was talking about, ambitious. And you meet someone special a few times in your life.. And this girl is special.’

He also quashes rumours, widely reported, that Fox wasn’t convinced by Cheryl.

Cowell said: ‘Mike Darnell and Peter Rice will tell you they wanted her all the time.’

‘They absolutely fell in love with her. In a way, the deal, it was almost conditional on Cheryl having the gig. They were desperate for her.’

And Cowell also reveals he has wanted Paula Abdul all along he said: ‘I've always wanted Paula. Always been very vocal about that. I missed her the second she left the show.’

Deals haven’t been finalised for Cheryl and for Paula- and the only officially confirmed judge being LA Reid- but the final four is quiet clear, Cowell, Cole, Abdul and Reid, with Nicole Scherzinger as host.

But for Finke the lineup doesn't impress and she ponders:  ‘Will Cowell with this panel that's more of a "ZZZZZZ Factor" than The X Factor?’

And while she isn't particularly complementary about former Popstars contestant Cheryl, perhaps her most scathing comments are reserved for Cowell himself.

She concludes: 'Cowell wants himself to be the only celebrated celebrity on his new show.'

Mariah Carey celebrates Easter by painting her huge baby bump

Mariah Carey celebrates Easter by painting her huge baby bump

She is heavily pregnant with her twins and due to give birth any day now.

And as she eagerly awaits the arrival of her babies, Mariah Carey once again got festive with her baby bump by painting an Easter design on her huge belly.

Posting the picture on Twitter yesterday, the large drawing features an egg motif with clouds and a pink and blue heart symbolising the boy and girl she is expecting any day now.

Hinting that she is possibly exhausted with her pregnancy, the 42-year-old tweeted: 'HAPPY EASTER! Ummm.. READY!!!!!!!!!!!! Done and done,' along with the picture.

Slumped in a chair, the singer is seen sitting holding her bump while an unknown woman paints the design.

Mariah wore her hair in natural curls in the snap, and lounged in a black top and trousers .

Earlier in the day, she also retweeted a snap a fan had posted featuring an Easter Bunny toy and two eggs painted with the word's 'Dem Babies'.

The phrase was in reference to another image Mariah had posted almost a month ago.

She had previously painted a butterfly on her huge bump and daubed the words 'dem babies' on her stomach.

The large drawing had one pink wing and one blue, once again to symbolise the different sexes of her twins.

She had said that the body art was to celebrate her 41st birthday and her anniversary with husband Nick Cannon, 30,  which is later this month.

She plans to juggle motherhood with her career and has already signed up for to be part of Simon Cowell's new show, X Factor.

After shooting down reports that Mariah was set to be one of the judges, due to the timing of her pregnancy, he admitted in a recent radio interview that the star would be involved with the show.

Simon said: 'I think Mariah will have a role on the TV live shows.'

He added: 'I met her recently and she was on great form. And her idea was to be the judge of the judges, which only Mariah could come up with. She'll be involved in some form. I literally adore her. I love her to bits.'

Carey has been married to actor and TV host Nick Cannon since 2008 and the pair will celebrate their third wedding anniversary on April 30.

They married at her private estate on Windermere Island in The Bahamas after a short time of dating.

The couple met while shooting Carey's music video for her single Bye Bye on a private island off the coast of Antigua.

Mariah has spoken about how she conceived the twins naturally and also opened up about how she miscarried when she became pregnant shortly after marrying Canon in April 2008.

The Only way Is Essex: Amy Childs, Chloe Sim and Billie Faiers hit Brentword

They've become famed for their excess, so it's hardly shocking to see the cast of The Only Way Is Essex dressed slightly over the top while going about their daily business.

And today the ladies in particular really took their exuberant approach to fashion to new heights as they hit Brentwood to film scenes for the ITV2 show.

Amy Childs, 20, led the spectacle, squeezing her rather ample chest into a slinky white dress with a beige bag and red heels.

Of course, the outfit wouldn't have been complete with an obligatory pair of sunshades, and the puffy-lipped reality star didn't disappoint with a large pair of Eighties style glasses.

The rest of the TOWIE girls followed suit, with almost all of them joining Amy in summery light shades.

In fact, it was only Chloe Sims who bucked the trend in a fuchsia chiffon dress with matching strappy wedge heels.

She also donned a large pair of sunshades, the kind you might see Victoria Beckham wearing, as the group made their way into affluent Brentwood.

Sam Faiers, who recently opened her own boutique named Minnie's, was also in town with the TOWIE gang.

She arrived looking more casual than the rest of the Essex girls, wearing a light summer dress with an asymetric hemline but kept it sensible in a pair of flip-flops.

Sister Billie joined the light brigade in a one-shoulder, cream dress.

Gemma Collins made a bit of a faux pas in her silver mini dress. With her larger frame the shimmering number made her look like the tin man from The Wizard Of Oz.

One of TOWIE's most popular boys, Joey Essex, was on hand to fill the male contingent during filming.

The man who wore bright orange UGG boots and skinny jeans for a 'glamping' trip on one of last week's shows, this time played it a little more understated.

He wore a hooded tracksuit top with jeans and a pair of Nike Air Rift trainers, which have a slit in the front of them to divide the wearer's toes.

For some odd reason he left the Velcro straps undone, possibly a fashion statement or maybe his shoes were just a little too tight for him?

Completing the line was James Argent, or Arg as he's known.

The 23-year-old has a penchant for dressing beyond his years and today's outing was no different.

With his standard combed over, slick hairstyle Arg walked in among the ladies wearing a V-neck jumper, grey trousers and a light pink shirt.

The TOWIE hunk has been at the centre of an ongoing love story, battling to win back his ex-love Lydia.

In a recent interview, he denied he'd cheated on her, as it's been rumoured recently.

He told The Mirror: 'I’m not a cheat. I don’t want to do anything with other girls because Lydia is my soulmate.'

With her sunkissed blonde locks falling in waves down her back, Tess appears fresh-faced and extremely youthful.

Another shot sees her in a cream bra basque as she strikes a sultry pose into the camera and it is easy to see how she had a successful modelling career before turning her hand to TV presenting.

Tess’s latest range for Marks & Spencer includes makeup, moisturisers and bronzing products and the TV presenter showed off her fabulous figure in these sultry shots to promote the line.

While Tess has been flashing her flesh in her latest campaign, her husband Vernon Kay is keeping his promotional work in the family, and is currently starring in a cheesy ad with his mother Gladys to promote Flora Cusine cooking oil.

Vernon’s image alongside Tess as one of the UK’s showbiz golden couples was in tatters last year when he was caught sending racy texts to a bevy of women.

The Bolton-born DJ patched things up with his wife, with whom he has two daughters – Phoebe, six, and 18-month-old Amber - but Tess said after the revelation that ‘the trust was gone’.

But now that the couple have put the incident behind them, Vernon is moving forward with the advert and a new presenting gig.

The All Star Family Fortunes presenter was tipped to joined forces with former X Factor contestant Stacey Soloman, 21, to present celebrity talent show Sing If You Can.

But, after filming the pilot, Vernon was replaced by Keith Lemon because he and show bosses thought it would be better if the programme was hosted by a comedian.

The ITV series sees two celebrity teams trying to deliver the best performances of modern hits and classic songs.

Sing If You Can is set to feature celebrities including, former X Factor contestants and TV personalities who perform while being distracted and the show raises money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Vernon said said: ‘Following the pilot the producers and I talked about the tone of the show.

‘And we all agreed that, because of the mix of comedy and slapstick challenges, it would benefit from having a comedian to host it.’

Vince Cable blasts Glencore chairman Simon Murray as 'unbelievably primitive'

Vince Cable blasts Glencore chairman Simon Murray as 'unbelievably primitive'

  • Vince Cable labels comments 'unbelievably primitive'
  • Embarrassment for company ahead of $60bn floatation

Business Secretary Vince Cable has criticised 'unbelievably primitive' comments by a multi-billion dollar company chairman, who claimed women prefer to bring up children rather than be in the boardroom.

Simon Murray, 71, whose commodities and raw materials company Glencore International is proposing a $60bn floatation, suggested yesterday that he would not 'rush out' to hire a woman who is 'going to go off for nine months'.

The Hong Kong-based septuagenarian was forced to make a grovelling apology for the comments - widely lambasted as sexist - he made in a Sunday Telegraph interview.

Blasted: Hong Kong-based Simon Murray, chairman of Glenmore, has been roundly criticised for comments he made to a Sunday newspaper

The keen adventurer, who was oldest man to reach the South Pole unsupported aged 63 and was only appointed chairman of the Swiss-based company a month ago, claimed that young women were a risk to hire because they have a desire to get married and become pregnant.

The 71-year-old is quoted as saying in the newspaper: 'Women are quite as intelligent as men.

'They have a tendency not to be so involved quite often and they're not so ambitious in business as men because they've got better things to do. Quite often they like bringing up their children and all sorts of other things.

'All these things have unintended consequences. Pregnant ladies have nine months off.

'Do you think that means when I rush out, what I'm absolutely desperate to have is young women who are about to get married in my company, and that I really need them on board because I know they're going to get pregnant and they're going to go off for nine months?'

Critical: Business Secretary Vince Cable said that Mr Murray's comments were 'unbelievably primitive'.

Mr Cable called Murray 'unbelievably primitive' and indicated that his comments could be used to justify any affirmative action in British boardrooms.

Mr Cable told the Telegraph: 'His views are so bad they almost sound like a wind-up. It is simply indefensible and belongs in a bygone era.'

In the Guardian he added: 'These prejudices are so unbelievably primitive they belong to the middle ages.

'He almost single-handedly makes the case for tough action to ensure there are more women on boards and to ensure women's rights in the work place are properly entrenched.'

Former banker Lord Davies, who conducted the Government's review into male-dominated boardrooms, said Mr Murray's comments were 'ill-judged' and 'unforgivable' and unions were shocked by the remarks.

'For a company of Glencore's size to be saying things like that in inappropriate, ill-judged and disappointing,' he told the Telegraph.

Davies's review report shied away from recommending quotas on women in boardrooms, but he said 25 per cent of a company's board should be female and that companies should publish 'aspirational goals' in the next half-year.

Mr Murray, a British expat who has been based in Hong Kong, said of women in the boardroom that they were 'always welcome', but added ' why make a special case out of it?'. Glencore has no women on its board, according to the Telegraph.

Meanwhile head of equality and employment rights at the TUC, Sarah Veale, said to the Guardian: 'We hoped old-fashioned attitudes like this had died with the last century but sadly it seems they live on.'

Mr Murray attempted to salvage his reputation by saying sorry for his comments: 'I apologise for any offence caused by my comments regarding the role of women in business reported in the Sunday Telegraph.

'I'm 100 per cent committed to equal opportunities in the boardroom and across a company's structure, be they private or public.

'Businesses which fail to address the under-representation of women at all levels will be at a competitive disadvantage.'

Mr Murray was also forthright in other areas of the interview, labelling England a nation of 'football hooligans and Dome-builders', which had become 'economically absolutely shambolic'. Its heroes, he said, had changed from Livingstone and Nelson to 'more about David Beckham and perhaps Michael Jackson'.

Mr Murray, who used to run Hutchison Whampoa - the Hong Kong conglomerate that once owned mobile phone company Orange - was a surprise choice to chair Glencore, which will be floated on the FTSE 100.

The floatation will parachute the company into the top echelons of the FTSE 100.

The 485 existing employee shareholders will receive $100m (£60m) each as a result of the flotation and some 65 of these are top commodity traders in line for more than $500m.
