Ivory Coast: supporters of Ouattara and Gbagbo clash in Abidjan

Pro-Gbagbo militiamen from the Young Patriots fight with forces loyal to internationally recognised Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara in Abidjan. Elite troops loyal to under-fire Ivory Coast strongman Laurent Gbagbo battled his rival's army in the heart of Abidjan, as he faces violent removal if he fails to relinquish the presidency. Ouattara's forces entered the economic capital, hoping a cornered and increasingly isolated Gbagbo would hand over power, warning he faced a bloodbath if he did not.
