Michael Campbell appeals weapons conviction in Lithuania

An Irishman jailed for 12 years in Lithuania for smuggling weapons for the Real IRA is to appeal against his conviction.

Michael Campbell, from Dundalk, County Louth, was arrested following an MI5 sting operation in 2008.

He was convicted in October of supporting a terrorist group, illegal possession of weapons and attempted smuggling.

His lawyer said Campbell insists he was set up.

Michael Campbell was arrested after an international surveillance operation involving MI5, Irish and Lithuanian intelligence services.
