A 21-year-old man is on life support after attempting suicide at the Harford County Detention Center Saturday night.
The inmate, whose name is not being released for the family's sake, according to Harford County Sheriff's Spokeswoman Monica Worrell, attempted to hang himself Saturday night around 11:30 p.m.
He had been brought to the county jail on Jan. 8 for a violation of probation in a case in which he was charged with second-degree assault, Worrell said, and did not show any indicators that he needed to be under a suicide watch.
After being transported, alive and breathing, by ambulance to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, according to Worrell, the man was later transferred to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. As of 4 a.m. Sunday, he was in critical but stable condition.

No foul play is suspected in the incident and he is expected to be released from custody, Worrell said.
A message was not returned by the shock trauma public affairs office Tuesday evening, but Worrell said her last update Monday morning had him on life support.
No further information was available.
