Joppa driver charged with assault after shots fired on I-95

A Joppa man was charged Thursday in connection with what police say was a hit-and-run accident in which shots were fired.

Maryland State Police said the accident, which involved two vehicles, occurred around 3:50 p.m. Wednesday on northbound I-95, south of the Route 152 exit. A duty officer at the Bel Air Barrack said Wednesday evening shots had been fired and an arrest had been made.

Nicholas Heider, 34, of the 1600 block of Dugan Drive in Joppa, is charged with first-degree assault and reckless endangerment in the incident, according to a news release from the state police, who said they would be checking with the Harford County State's Attorney's Office regarding other possible charges.

Electronic court records show that Heider is also charged with another reckless endangerment charge, having a handgun in a vehicle, second-degree assault and the use of a firearm in a felony violent crime.
